Who can take this course?

This course is for both the RDA and EF I, who wish to expand their licensure to perform all duties of a RDAEF II to include:

  • Conduct preliminary evaluation of the patient’s oral health, including, but not limited to, charting, intraoral and extra-oral evaluation of soft tissue, classifying occlusion, and myofunctional evaluation.

  • Perform oral health assessments in school-based, community health project settings under the direction of a dentist, registered dental hygienist, or registered dental hygienist in alternative practice.

  • Cord retraction of gingiva for impression procedures.

  • Size and fit endodontic master points and accessory points.

  • Cement endodontic master points and accessory points.

  • Take final impressions for permanent indirect restorations.

  • Take final impressions for tooth-borne removable prosthesis.

  • Polish and contour existing amalgam restorations.

  • Place, contour, finish, and adjust all direct restorations.

  • Adjust and cement permanent indirect restorations.

  • Other procedures authorized by regulations adopted by the board.

  • All procedures required to be performed under direct supervision shall be checked and approved by the supervising licensed dentist prior to the patient’s dismissal from the office.

What are the requirements needed to attend this course?

You must have a current RDA license with your sealant certification or be an EF I, and provide proof of malpractice insurance, which can be provided by your employer or it can be obtained through the ADAA with your membership.

When is this course offered?

CCDA courses are on weekends (Saturday and Sunday), 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. We will provide both the didactic and hands - on portion of your course during these times. Dates to be determined by the Dental Board of California’s exam schedule for RDAEF’s.

Will I need a participating dentist for the program?

Yes, you will need a participating dentist. You will need 5 posterior crowns prepped by a participating dentist during this course and they will need to be available to place local anesthesia for your patients. You will also need a supervising dentist to attend the state board examination to anesthetize your patient for cord retraction and final impression.

What is required during the externship?

You will be required to perform expanded function duties under the direct supervision of a participating dentist and provide completed course work to your instructors for evaluation.

Does CCDA provide student loans or grants?

Unfortunately, the federal government does not provide grants for certificate programs. CCDA does not currently offer student loans, we do however offer several payment options.

- Credit card(s) to assist in your payment plan

Are there any hidden costs?

Though CCDA provides many of the required supplies needed for this course, students will be responsible to bring additional items. A list of additional instruments and supplies you will be required to bring for each module will be given to you at the time of acceptance into the program. If you need to purchase additional instrumentation, CCDA can assist you by helping you purchase them at cost through our vendors.

Are we required to purchase loupes?

Loupes are not mandatory, however highly recommended. We will have a representative from Orascoptic available to discuss your individual needs and purchasing options. However; you may research additional vendors. Having loupes can greatly affect the outcome and quality of your restorations.
