Radiology Course
Course Description:
This course is a 32 hour course. The cost is $800. It is typically held on Fridays and Saturdays. You must complete a full mouth series of x-rays on 4 live patients. You are responsible for providing your own patients. You will need to show proof of a completed coronal polish course. This course introduces radiation safety and protection, recognition of elementary anatomic landmarks for the purpose of exposing dental radiographs. Students will demonstrate a basic knowledge of radiological terminology and vocabulary; demonstrate proficiency in radiation safety as required by regulation; have a useful knowledge of radiologic infection control; demonstrate an understanding of the principles of radiation and radiological techniques through examination. Advanced instruction in radiation safety and protection; intermediate and advanced principles of radiology including film placement, angulation, and exposures. Students will receive instruction in anatomical identification and interpretation of radiologic images; hands-on experience in exposing film on human subjects and advanced darkroom/processing procedures and digital imaging; Students will be able to demonstrate clinical competency involving X-ray labs upon successful completion of Radiation Safety course and examination. You will need to show proof of a completed CPR course and an 8-hour Infection Control course.
Eligible students must supply a copy of the following requirements:
1. A copy of your California ID.
2. A copy of your CPR certification card.
3. A copy of 8-Hour infection control certification.
- Course Length: 32 hours
- Clinical hands-on skills: 12 hours
- Hours of lab skills: 12 hours
- Lecture/Didactic: 8 hours
PREREQUISITES/CO-REQUISITES:
Must have current BLS certification and 8-Hour Infection Control.
